FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Congratulations to our first communicants: We are happy that three children from our parish will be making their First Communion this weekend. Several “second” communicants will also join them. It is a special day, as the children will receive the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ for the first time. I hope that they will remember this day for the rest of their lives. Indeed, how could anyone forget the day when God came so close to us? Let us pray for these children that they would preserve the communion of faith and life with Jesus Christ throughout their lives.
(2) The upcoming Supreme Court decision: As you may be aware, this week someone from the court illegally leaked a document indicating the very likely overturn of the Roe v. Wade (1973) decision that legalized abortion in this country. Political left and many others went berserk. They started to shout their empty and anti-science slogans and even began to threaten violence. In fact, one abortion activist group published the home addresses of the judges who would vote for the overturn of the Roe v. Wade and promised to disrupt Catholic Masses this weekend.
What was very interesting, but not that surprising, is that instead of coming forward with arguments they just shout. In fact, they cannot offer any real arguments for their justification of killing of unborn children. They say, “woman can do what she wants with her body;” yet, they conveniently avoid the scientific fact that it is not her body as it has a different (unique) DNA from the moment of conception. They talk of unborn children as just lumps of cells and being only a fetus. However, we are a lump of cells even at the age of 50. In addition, when the pro-abortion people bring gifts to their pregnant friend, why do they call it baby-shower and not fetus-shower, or lump of cells-shower? There is no justification for what pro-abortion movement stands for. Their attitude is not only gravely insulting to God, but it also insults the common sense, and ignores science.
I do not know what the final decision will be, but I am hopeful. Was it leaked in order to intimidate the judges? Let us pray for the conversion of pro-abortion people. Did you know that Jane Roe [Norma McCorvey], who brought about the 1973 lawsuit, years later converted to Catholic Faith and became part of the pro-life movement? Let us pray for the judges, for the expectant mothers, and for ourselves that we would have courage to witness to the intolerant world the beauty of the teachings of our Good Shepherd. God bless you all! Fr. Bona
