FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA<\/u><\/strong>:<\/strong> (1)<\/strong> This week on Wednesday is the feast of Apostles St. Simon and St. Jude Thaddaeus. Here I would like to share excerpts from the catechesis given by Pope Benedict XVI:<\/p>\n

Simon is given a nickname that varies in the four lists: while Matthew and Mark describe him as a \u201cCananaean,\u201d Luke instead describes him as a \u201cZealot\u201d \u2013 [as the one] marked by passionate attachment to his Jewish identity, hence, for God, his People and divine Law. Simon was worlds apart from Matthew, who, on the contrary, had an activity behind him as a tax collector that was frowned upon as entirely impure. This shows that Jesus called his disciples and collaborators, without exception, from the most varied social and religious backgrounds.<\/p>\n

It was people who interested him, not social classes or labels! And the best thing is that in the group of his followers, despite their differences, they all lived side by side, overcoming imaginable difficulties: indeed, what bound them together was Jesus himself, in whom they all found themselves united with one another. This is clearly a lesson for us who are often inclined to accentuate differences and even contrasts, forgetting that in Jesus Christ we are given the strength to get the better of our continual conflicts.<\/p>\n

Then with regard to Jude Thaddaeus, [one of the New Testament letters] has been attributed to [him]. A major concern of this writing is to put Christians on guard against [false teachings]. [The lesson is that] in the midst of all the temptations that exist, with all the currents of modern life, we must preserve our faith\u2019s identity. It is essential to keep clearly in mind that our identity requires strength, clarity and courage in light of the contradictions of the world in which we live.<\/p>\n

Therefore, may both Simon the Cananaean and Jude Thaddeus help us to rediscover the beauty of the Christian faith ever anew and to live it without tiring, knowing how to bear a strong and at the same time peaceful witness to it.<\/p>\n

(2)<\/strong> Just a reminder for our patronal feastdays: On November 8<\/strong>, we will celebrate St. Emeric and on November 22<\/strong>, we will honor St. Elizabeth of Hungary.<\/p>\n

(3)<\/strong> Today, the music for the 11 AM Sunday Mass is provided by our Youth choir.<\/p>\n

ALL SAINTS (November 1)<\/u><\/strong>:<\/strong> This year the feast of the All Saints will fall on a Sunday. I would like to invite children to dress as some saint and be part of the procession at the Mass.<\/strong> After the Mass, we will gather downstairs for some refreshments and we will have a chance to guess which saints the children were portraying. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

ROSARY<\/u><\/strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0In the month of October, we pray it communally on Sundays at 10:25am.<\/p>\n

FEAST OF ST. EMERIC<\/u><\/strong> will be celebrated on November 8. We will begin with a Eucharistic Adoration at 8:30AM. At 10:30AM we will have the Benediction, followed by the Solemn Mass at 11AM at which Fr. Barnab\u00e1s G. Kiss, OFM pastor of Holy Cross Hungarian Roman Catholic Church, Detroit, MI will be our guest homilist. After the Mass, we will have a sit down meal. The menu will be: traditional Hungarian \u2013style chicken soup, roast pork with mushroom sauce, rice pilaf, dill pickle, homemade pastry, coffee. The cost of the meal will be $30 and $15 for students (free for children six years of age or under). Pre-ordered take-out also available: complete dinner ($30) or just soup ($12).
