FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Congratulations and Blessings to Nina Maria Bilek, who will be receiving first communion this Sunday. May Christ through His Sacred Body and Blood strengthen Nina and all the children receiving Eucharist for the very first time this year on their journey through life. Thank you also to the children who are participating in the May Crowning, which is our parish’s way of expressing our thanks to the Blessed Mother for her help and protection here on Earth. The devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is the most effective way of becoming better and better followers and imitators of her Son.
(2) All of you are welcome to gather downstairs after the Sunday Mass for our agapé (fellowship and refreshments).
(3) The music for this Sunday’s Mass is provided by our Youth choir.
(4) Thank you to all of you who work around the parish, the church, and help out with different events and programs. May God reward your generosity.
(5) I will be away from the parish and will be back on 26th. There will not be weekday Masses until the 29th and substitute priests will be covering the weekend Masses. If there is an emergency, please call your closest, neighboring parish. If there are funerals, please email me at rbona@dioceseofcleveland.org and I will try to arrange for a priest. I keep you all in my prayers.
HELP PROTECT THE DIGNITY OF LIFE IN OHIO: Life in its earliest and most vulnerable stages is threatened by groups proposing an amendment to the Ohio Constitution for the November 2023 ballot to expand and enshrine abortion at the expense of protections for preborn children and women. The Catechism of the Catholic Church proclaims that “human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception.” The Church accompanies and supports women struggling with the acceptance of pregnancies and mothers through programs like Walking with Moms in Need and the services of Catholic Charities. The bishops of Ohio strongly encourage Catholics statewide to unite in prayer and work to defeat this proposed amendment and its grave consequences for women and preborn children in Ohio. Protect Them Both materials about the proposed amendment are available in the back of the church, by the main doors.
- Protect Them Both Prayer Card: Unite with Catholics across Ohio in asking God to strengthen us as we defend and accompany mothers and preborn children
- Dignity of Life Threatened in Ohio Flyer: Learn more about the proposed amendment and what you can do now
These are the first of many resources that will be available to help defeat the proposed amendment. Learn more about the Protect Them Both campaign hconf.org/protect
OUR LADY OF FATIMA: May 13 is the anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima in Portugal in 1917. She appeared six times to Lucia, 9, and her cousins Francisco, 8, and his sister Jacinta, 6, between May 13, 1917 and October 13, 1917. The Blessed Mother asked them to pray and devote themselves to the Holy Trinity and to “say the Rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and an end to the war.” She also revealed that the children would suffer, especially from the unbelief of their friends and families, and that the two younger children, Francisco and Jacinta would be taken to Heaven very soon but Lucia would live longer in order to spread her message and devotion to the Immaculate Heart. In the last apparition Our Lady revealed her name in response to Lucia’s question: “I am the Lady of the Rosary.”
NEW CHOIR MEMBERS: We are looking for volunteers (men and women) who would be willing to bolster our singing. If you are willing, please just come up to the choir loft. Thank you.
