FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Welcome to Fr. András Mezei, the homilist of today’s 11AM Mass. Many of you know him well, since he was my predecessor here from 2015-2020. After the 11AM Mass we will have agape in our hall downstairs and all of you invited. Thank you for all those who prepared the food and drink and/or contributed toward it.

(2) On July 4, our country celebrated its 249th anniversary of the nation’s stated independence from England. On that singular day, July 4, 1776, the original thirteen colonies declared their autonomy from the British Crown. The colonists did not want to be governed by a king from thousands of miles away whom they had perceived to rule over them in an unjust manner. Instead, they wanted to govern themselves with greater freedom and independence. Ever since this day, the notion of independence and liberty has become a motto, a rallying cry, and a way of life for America.

However, as we celebrate America’s birthday, let us never forget that paradox: the independence of an individual or a country is contingent on the dependence on God. The more God is rejected, less independence we can preserve for ourselves, as we become slaves to our own increasingly selfish desires and passions. Conversely, the more we profess in word and deed our absolute dependence on God, the greater the strength and wisdom we will have to govern our hearts and our country properly.

PRAYER FOR OUR NATION: Father of all nations and ages, we recall the day when our country claimed its place among the family of nations; for what has been achieved, we give You thanks, for the work that still remains we ask your help, and as you have called us from many peoples to be one nation, grant that, under your providence, our country may share your blessings with all the peoples of the earth. Through Christ our Lord. Amen (Roman Missal)

JULY – A MONTH OF PRECIOUS BLOOD: The veneration of the Precious Blood teaches us to honor the blood sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us honor the fact that He loved us so much – to the point of shedding his blood and sacrificing His life for us. We are able to truly appreciate this great love only when we accept the offer of Jesus’ friendship by living authentic, prayerful Christian lives. Let the month of July be a good occasion to place the Blood of Jesus at the center of our veneration. The Litany to the Precious Blood of Jesus is a very appropriate prayer for this purpose.

PRAYER IN THE POWER OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD: O God, may the True Blood, the Blood of the Lamb, spotless and undefiled, the precious Blood of your only begotten, Jesus Christ, be our protection. He has brought peace through His Blood shed on the cross: His Blood, the Blood of the new and everlasting covenant, which cleanses us from all sin, may wash us, sanctify us, and save us. Amen.

SAINT BENEDICT: On 11 July we celebrate the father of Western monasticism, Abbot Saint Benedict, one of the most influential figures in shaping the face of Christian Europe. He died in 547. Pope Paul VI made him the patron saint of Europe. His Rule is still followed by thousands of people, Benedictine monks, Cistercians, etc. Prayer and work (Ora et labora), contemplation and activity together give balance to the life of the Church.

LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $1,784; Maintenance: $10. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.
