FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank all of you for your congratulations, prayers, best wishes, and gifts on the occasion of my installation as the pastor of St. Emeric. I appreciate also the hard work of the Ladies of the St. Emeric Altar Guild, who prepared a very delicious luncheon for us, and of those as well who contributed some other way to our celebration. May God bless our parish so that we continue to reflect His goodness in all our actions.
(2) On February 20, St. Elizabeth of Hungary parish is going to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the consecration of its church. Consecration is a solemn dedication to a special purpose or service. The word consecration literally means “association with the sacred.” Persons, places, or things can be consecrated. The origin of the word comes from the Latin consecrare, which means dedicated, devoted, and sacred. In the case when a church is consecrated, it means that it has been set apart. It is no longer an ordinary building, but it is exclusively devoted to the worship of God and those matters that do not go against the holiness of the place.
After some consultation, I decided to have only one Mass next Sunday. Thus, there is not going to be a Sunday Mass at St. Emeric on February 20. The Mass will be at St. Elizabeth at 10AM. The reasons for this decision are: 1) it is a significant celebration in the life of the Catholic Hungarian community in Cleveland; 2) something similar has been done before; 3) a fair number of people expressed to me that they were planning to go to St. Elizabeth; 4) the Mass at St. Emeric would have to be in English. I know that it may break up the routine here at St. Emeric and perhaps be of some inconvenience, but I believe that there are times when we need to come together and support one another. When we will have a significant anniversary, I am planning to have only one Mass here at St. Emeric as well and invite the parishioners of St. Elizabeth to join us. If you use St. Emeric envelope for the collection next week at St. Elizabeth, it will come here. Also, with the Opportunity Corridor now open, it is very easy and quick to get to St. Elizabeth church from the west and south. I keep you all in my prayers every day. God bless, Fr. Bona

CELEBRATION OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONSECRATION OF THE CURRENT CHURCH OF ST. ELIZABETH PARISH: On February 20th, St. Elizabeth Parish will celebrate the aforementioned anniversary. The Mass will be at 10AM and Bp. Edward Malesic will be the celebrant. The repaired bells will be blessed and afterwards a light reception will take place. All of you are invited! For planning purposes, please RSVP to Virginia Kachmar (calling home: 216-791-6270 or cell: 216-246-2370).
BLESSING OF MARRIED COUPLES (from the Roman Ritual): We praise you, O God, we bless you, Creator of all things, who in the beginning made man and woman that they might form a communion of life and love. We also give you thanks for graciously blessing the family life of your servants, so that it might present an image of Christ’s union with the Church. Therefore look with kindness upon them today, and as you have sustained their communion amid joys and struggles, renew their Marriage covenant each day, increase their charity, and strengthen in them the bond of peace, so that (together with the circle of their children that surrounds them,) they may forever enjoy your blessing. + In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen
