FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) This week begins the Holy Season of Lent with Ash Wednesday on February 18. There will be two Masses: 9 AM (language based on those present) and 6 PM (in Hungarian). Also, we will pray the Stations of the Cross at 10:30am before Sunday Mass.

(2) The music for this Sunday’s Mass (11AM) is provided by our Youth choir.

(3) On March 1, we are honored to welcome the president of Hungary. He will visit us for our 11AM Mass and for our agapé meal afterwards. The March 15 commemoration (followed by a pastry reception) will be on the same day (March 1) at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth at 3:15 PM. If you are intending to come to St. Elizabeth please email to president@hungariancleveland.org. An approximate number of attendees is required for planning purposes.

CATECHESIS: Today, February 15, we will continue our catechetical meetings. We will meet after 11AM Mass in our hall and will watch a short video or a presentation, followed by a Q&A. The plan is to keep it under half an hour. All of you are invited. This program is in Hungarian.

A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who helped with or supported OUR ANNUAL PORK SAUSAGE DINNER. I know that it takes a lot of work and sacrifice. The net proceeds from the dinner was $2,098 (as of this writing). I appreciate the Scout Regős Group for their dance performance and creating enjoyable atmosphere. Thank you also for the musicians and singers at the youth Mass last week.

THE 2026 CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL is underway with an in-pew commitment process taking place this weekend. This is not a special collection; rather, the Catholic Charities Appeal represents the chance for all Catholics to make a significant pledge, payable in installments, to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland in order to support its mission of a society that stands united in its support of the “least among us.” This year’s appeal theme is “Yours are the hands with which He blesses all the world.” Your generous support will transform the lives of others, to offer dignity, possibilities and companionship to those who are most vulnerable.

HUNGARIANS IN IRISHTOWN BEND AND PARK PLANS MEETING: On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 6:00 pm at St. Emeric Church, ­­– downstairs in the Church Hall. The main aim of this group is to discuss and help plan the future Hungarian cultural memorial for the park. Please stop by for this meeting if you are interested in this project, it is open to our parishioners.

A Review of Lenten Regulations for Latin Catholics: 1. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat and also days of fast, that is, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. 2. All Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence from meat. 3. The obligation to abstain from meat commences at 14 years old. 4. The obligation to fast commences at 18 years of age and ends at 59 years of age.

SCOUT BANQUET: the American Hungarian Friends of Scouting cordially invites you to their Scout Banquet on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. to the St. Emeric Church Parish Hall. The menu includes Hungarian mushroom soup, stewed beef in red wine, spaetzle and garlic roasted carrots, cucumber salad and chocolate rum square for dessert. Donation is $30.00 ($15 for children under 12). Reservations must be made by Tuesday, Feb. 17. Online: www.csbk.org
