FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: The month of November begins with the Solemnity of All Saints when we remember the Church Triumphant (Ecclesia triumphans), that is those who are already enjoying the beatific vision in Heaven. The following day, November 2 (All Souls), we switch gears and focus on the Church Suffering (Ecclesia patiens), that is on the souls in Purgatory. We, who are here on earth, are referred to as Church Militant (Ecclesia militans), because we are still engaged in a spiritual warfare against sin and the devil, striving to advance God’s kingdom and live according to His will. These are not three Churches, but only one, although existing in the aforementioned three states. Thus, we are all spiritually united and can (should) help each other. In the month of November, we especially help those in Purgatory through our prayers, Masses, and acts of self-denial that we offer for them. Let us not forget our deceased.

OUR PATRONAL FEAST and THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONSECRATION OF OUR PRESENT CHURCH BUILDING will be celebrated on November 9 and Cleveland’s Bp. Martin Amos, bishop emeritus of Davenport, IA, will be our main celebrant at 11AM Mass. We will begin with a Eucharistic Adoration after 9AM Mass in English. At 10:45AM we will have the Benediction, followed by the Solemn Mass at 11AM. After the Mass, we will hold the Centennial Banquet in our hall. The menu will be: Chicken/Hen Soup in Újházy Style, Smoked sausage stuffed pork loin, Hungarian style potatoes, Marinated cabbage-vegetable salad, Walnut torte. The cost of the banquet will be $35 and $15 for students (free for children of six years of age or under) and you can register by November 5 with Mária Zsula (216-676-5863) or Mária Mészáros (440-331-0391). Proceeds will benefit the maintenance and upkeep of our 100 year old church building.

NOTES ON OUR 100TH ANNIVERSARY: These are different from the last week. (1) For the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the consecration of our church building we would like to display some pictures. These pictures would be of the church building, but also of the people in the church (such as your baptism, wedding, or other celebration). If you have a picture like that and would like to have it displayed on November 9, please contact Marika Megyimori or myself. Thank you.

(2) As we are looking forward to the 100th celebration next Sunday, we would like to memorialize the event by taking a photograph of all of us in front of the church (or inside, if the weather is inclement). This would be in the same style as on the day of consecration. The plan is to include this picture in our anniversary book. Let us come as many as we can.

(3)  Speaking of the anniversary book. We are planning to be ready with it no later than Christmas. This will give us a chance to document and include the next Sunday’s 100th celebration. If you have not yet sponsored the book or the event, and would like to do so, there is still a chance. Thank you to all those who have already contributed by sponsoring the book or the event.

(4) For next week, if you are coming to the Mass and the banquet, if you are able, please pick up your ticket for the banquet before the Mass. By doing so, we will shorten the line for the tickets after the Mass. Thank you.

SAVE THE DATE OF NOVEMBER 23 for the celebration of the patronal feastday of St. Elizabeth. We will have Mass at 11:30am at the Shrine and followed by a sit-down meal. More information to follow.
