FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) I will be away for few days (June 29-July 6) and so the Mass schedule will be slightly different. No Mass on Friday, June 30th and Sunday July 2. On Sunday, July 2, there will be a Mass at St. Elizabeth at 11AM. The Mass will be followed by a guitar concert by Marcell Nickmann, an emerging Hungarian artist, in the church’s courtyard. A food for purchase will also be available. To help plan for food, please RSVP to Virginia at 216-791-6270 by Wednesday, June 28th.
(2) June 24th marked the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. This great victory was the result of many prayers and hard work. However, the fight is not over. Over the past year, while some states have acted to protect preborn children, others have tragically moved to enshrine abortion in law—enacting extreme abortion policies that leave children vulnerable to abortion, even until the moment of birth. Here in Ohio we are facing one such battle. Outside sources are pouring money into Ohio with the plan to have the constitution of the state amended and enshrine in it the so-called rights of abortion and gender ideologies. Needles to say, it would be a great tragedy. Please, educate yourself and use your right to vote already this August.
(3) Bishop Malesic’s comments on the issue ahead of us (excerpts): “In Ohio, there likely will be a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that seeks to do the latter – expand and enshrine abortion at the expense of existing protections for women and preborn children. As believers in the sacredness of life, we must be prepared to take action on this extraordinarily important issue and protect the rights of the preborn. Please stay informed by visiting the Catholic Conference of Ohio’s website, which provides detailed information on this issue, as well as how the amendment — if passed — will affect the rights of parents with minor children when it comes to abortion and gender identity matters. It is our responsibility as Catholics to respect and support life at every stage. Let us pray that God will grant us the courage and wisdom to protect the gift of human life from conception to natural death, and respect and support the lives of our brothers and sisters both born and yet to be born, with great love, care and kindness.”
PRAYER TO KING ST. LADISLAUS (feastday: June 27): Hail, good King, all praiseworthy St. Ladislaus! Glory be to you, our gracious and mighty patron, our kind protector! O Ladislaus, confessor of the Lord, strengthen thy people by thy intercession, that the grace of thy blessedness may soften us who are weighed down by the weight of sins, that we may obtain, under thy guidance, eternal reward. St. Lazarus, King, the steady hope of thy people, look to the piety of the nation that seeks thee, and intercede for us, for the salvation of us all. Amen
