MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS FOR THE COMING WEEK:

September 27 Saturday 5:00 PM Parishioners of St. Emeric Parish
September 28 Sunday 11:00 AM † Members of the Várkolyi Family, by Elizabeth Lacza

FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: I would like to draw your attention to the next week’s special program (see also below the announcement). On Sunday, September 28, at 12:30PM we will have a presentation on the life and legacy of Cardinal Joseph Mindszenty. It was 50 years ago that he passed away and we do not want to forget him. His heroic witness to the faith is timely even now. If you are able, please come and stay after the Mass for this presentation.

TIME AWAY: I am away from the parish and will be back on October 3. See below for the temporary Mass time changes. If there is an emergency, please call your closest, neighboring parish. If there are funerals, please email me at rbona@dioceseofcleveland.org and I will try to arrange for a priest. I keep you all in my prayers.

TEMPORARY MASS TIME CHANGES: I will be away September 16 – October 3. For this reason, there will be the following changes in our Mass schedule. (1) No Sunday 9AM Mass on September 21 and 28. (2) No weekday Masses (Monday-Friday) from September 16 through October 3.

FAITHFUL UNTIL DEATH: Remembering the Dedication of Venerable Cardinal Mindszenty, 50 years on: On Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 12:30 PM, here at St. Emeric Church, Márk Érszegi will present a lecture (in English) on the life and legacy of Hungarian Cardinal József Mindszenty. The presenter is Religious Advisor to the State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This event is a cooperation between St. Emeric Church, the State Secretariat for the Aid of Persecuted Christians, and the Consulate General of Hungary in Chicago.

MAJOR MAINTENANCE ISSUE:  Our aging boiler is on its way to break down. We had a leaking boiler for some time and were trying to fix it internally through chemical solutions, but it worked only for so long and is no longer a viable option. The only repair option left is to disassemble completely the boiler and to replace the leaking heat exchangers (one or two). This is a labor intensive and, practically speaking, cost prohibitive work (almost up to a 40% of the cost of a new boiler). Moreover, this would not prevent a future leak appearing in the other heat exchangers. Our boiler was manufactured in 1994 and installed around that time. Every advice that I received recommended us to obtain a new boiler, as investing a substantial amount of money in a 30-year old boiler is not a wise investment. I am in the process of gathering estimates from different companies. So far, I have received one offer with six figures. I hope very much that we receive better offers, but the truth is that it will be a major expenditure for us. Once we come to a specific number, I will let you know. The time is also running out, because the fall temperatures that require heating are upon us. If you could help with offsetting the cost, it would be greatly appreciated. Mark your donation with “new boiler.” Thank you to all of you.

40 Days of life: From September 24 – November 2 you are invited to join with other Christians for 40 Days for Life – 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. Additionally, you are invited to stand and peacefully pray anytime between 7am to 7pm during the 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside Preterm – 12000 Shaker Blvd, Cleveland, 44120 or Planned Parenthood – 25350 Rockside Rd, Bedford Hts, 44146, or Signature Health – 54 South State St, Painesville, 44077.
