1956 COMMEMORATION HELD AT ST. EMERIC – OCTOBER 20, 2024

Cleveland’s Hungarian community held its commemoration of the 1956 revolution and freedom fight on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, in the St. Emeric Church Parish Hall. Organized by the United Hungarian Societies, the guest speaker was Eva Orszag, a scout leader from Hungarian Scout Troop 33 and the daughter of a 1956-er. Other members of the Hungarian scout troops, the Hungarian School and the Hungarian Scout Folk Ensemble also performed poems, songs, and music. After the moving program there was time for food and fellowship for all those in attendance.

On October 23 the Hungarian flag with the hole in the middle flew above Cleveland’s City Hall and the United Hungarian Societies held a wreath laying ceremony at the foot of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight memorial statue.
