FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Advent has a twofold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ’s first coming to us is remembered; as a season when that remembrance directs the mind and heart to await Christ’s Second Coming at the end of time. Advent is thus a period for devout and joyful expectation (General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar, 39). Today we bless our advent wreath and light the first candle that symbolizes hope and patriarchs of the Old Testament. The first candle is sometimes called the “Prophecy Candle” in remembrance of the prophets, especially Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. Thus, the first candle calls to mind the expectation felt in anticipation of the coming Messiah.

(2) Next Sunday (December 7) we will have a celebration of St. Nicholas, who would like to visit especially with children.

(3) Finally, thank you very much for the surprise celebration of my birthday. I appreciate your wishes, prayers, kindness and generosity. I keep you all in my prayers.

PRAYER FOR ADVENT SEASON: Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, for coming into this world to help mankind and to show him the right way. Forgive me if I forgot the importance of your coming. Eradicate all my doubts and pour thoughts of Advent into my heart. Let me experience the fact that you are coming to us today anew. Keep me alert so that I may welcome you with joy. Move into our country, our house, our community, and our hearts. Amen.

HISTORY OF “GIVING TUESDAY”: Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement that began in 2012 as a response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, aiming to shift the focus of the holiday season toward charitable giving and community support. The movement was designed to occur on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, hence the name Giving Tuesday. The initiative quickly gained traction as a social media-driven campaign, and many other institutions began organizing it in their respective ambits. Therefore, the Diocese of Cleveland also organizes for parishes and other religious institutions in our diocese a Giving Tuesday program called weGIVECATHOLIC. This year the Giving Tuesday falls on December 2 (when this fundraiser ends). Early giving has already started and as of the writing of this bulletin, we have received already $1,200. The primary reason for us to join these efforts (see the announcement below) was to reach a wider group of people. They may or may not be Hungarians and they may not even have a connection to our church. Please share it with you family, friends, coworkers, etc. Thank you to all who have already donated through this platform.

THIS YEAR, our church is taking part in the diocesan-run #weGIVECATHOLIC online fundraiser to help cover the cost of a much-needed new boiler. We invite you to consider making a donation and sharing this effort with family and friends who may wish to support our cause. Early giving begins Saturday, November 22, and continues through Giving Tuesday, December 2. You can donate easily by scanning the QR code or visiting: WeGiveCatholic.org/Emeric. If you’d like to make a donation by check, please make it out to “St. Emeric” and write “boiler” in the memo line and mail or drop it off at the church. 100% of all donations go to St. Emeric to fund the cost of a new boiler for the church.

LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $1,293; Maintenance: $300; Candles: $427; Boiler cost offset: $90. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK, especially for Bev Kimar, Teréz Kalász, Lajos Boday, Márta Takács, Kathy Szabó, Alex Szaday, Virginia Kachmar, Margaret Falk, Mária Hokky, Balázs Bedy, and Sylvia Öszényi.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE DECEASED: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen

THIS SUNDAY the 11:00 AM Mass from St. Emeric church will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/saintemeric/

LET US PRAY THREE HAIL MARYS FOR OUR PARISH EVERY DAY!
