SAINT STEPHEN DAY MASS AND FESTIVAL – AUGUST 16, 2026

On Sunday, August 16, 2026, the Cleveland Hungarian community paid a dignified tribute to the Feast Day of Saint Stephen. The celebration began with a solemn Holy Mass, at which Father András Mezei, former administrator of Saint Emeric Parish, concelebrated. He traveled from Hungary to join our community in prayer on this significant national holiday.
Following the Mass, Bálint Bakondi, representing the Hungarian Consulate in Chicago, delivered the ceremonial address, honoring the legacy of Saint Stephen and the unity of the Hungarian people. Our pastor, Father Richárd Bóna, completed the traditional rite by blessing and ceremonially cutting the new bread.
Guests then enjoyed a rich array of Hungarian dishes – goulash, debreceni sausage, stuffed cabbage, lecsó, cabbage and noodles, lángos, palacsinta, chimney cake, and strudel – while taking part in the day’s diverse programs. The Cleveland Hungarian Scout Folk Ensemble dance performance, music, displays, children’s activities, a church tour, bazaar, and raffle all contributed to creating a true community celebration.
The event concluded with great success, offering a worthy tribute to the memory and legacy of King Saint Stephen!
