FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) This year the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be celebrated on Monday, December 9. The Blessed Mother under the title of the Immaculate Conception is also the patroness of the United States. This solemnity is a Holy Day of Obligation, meaning that we are required to attend Mass. I know that many of you will probably attend near your workplace or your home, but here at St. Emeric we will have the following schedule: on Monday at 9AM, 12 Noon (the language depends on those present), and at 6:00PM (in Hungarian). I have highlighted the schedule for this solemnity in the above box.
(2) The music for this Sunday’s Mass is provided by our Youth choir.
(3) In the recent issues of our bulletins, I have written about establishing St. Margaret of Hungary Prayer Group here at the parish. Soon, I will publish the details.
CONFESSIONS: to prepare ourselves well for Christmas, beside the usual confession times, I will hear confessions also on Thursday, December 19. First opportunity will be after the 9AM morning Mass and then in the evening from 6-7PM. For the evening session, Fr. Peter Boksay will be available as well. Whether here or at another church, let us take advantage of the great Sacrament of Confession. Let us unburden ourselves and remove any hindrances to the coming of Jesus Christ to us in the Eucharist.
THE BLESSING OF THE BAMBINELLI was first instituted by St. John Paul II. On an Advent Sunday the children of Rome are encouraged to bring the baby Jesus (Bambinelli) from each of their Nativity sets to St. Peter’s Square. Following the Sunday Angelus address, the Pope blesses the figurines. This custom has spread throughout the world. We will celebrate this blessing in two weeks, on the final Sunday of Advent (December 22) after the Mass. All (not only children) are encouraged to bring baby Jesus from their home Nativity sets to the church for this special blessing.
STUFFED CABBAGE: for the benefit of St. Emeric parish, the ladies again will be making stuffed cabbage — for take out only. 6 cabbage rolls (fully cooked, just heat and eat) … $20. To place your order please call by Wednesday, December 11: Marika Zsula 216-676-5863 or Maria Meszaros 440-331-0391. Orders can be picked up Saturday, Dec. 14, before the 5pm mass or Sunday, Dec. 15, before or after the 11AM mass in the church hall.
LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $3,511; maintenance: $200; donations on the occasion of St. Emeric feast day: $20. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.
