FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: József Cardinal Mindszenty wrote: “The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral—a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body. The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation. . . What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this; to be a mother?” Blessed Mother’s Day to all the mothers in our parish.

Last week I wrote about the month of May being dedicated to the Blessed Mother. Today I would like to offer few ways we can honor Her: (1) Pray the Rosary Daily – The Rosary is important because our Blessed Mother came from heaven and asked us to unite ourselves with her Son through this prayer each day. (2) Decorate your Table – Put a blue tablecloth or runner on your table. Blue is the color of Mary. (3) Make a Mary Garden – Place a statue of Mary in your garden. Even a small patio, corner of a balcony, or kitchen window can offer space for a Mary Garden. (4) Offer Special Marian Prayers – Add a Hail Mary after grace before meals. Say a family Rosary or the Memorare together. (5) Read a Marian Book – Suggestions: The Secret of the Rosary or True Devotions to Mary by St. Louis de Montfort; or for a newer work try Hail, Holy Queen: the Mother of God in the Word of God by Scott Hahn. (6) Practice Acts of Charity – Do a special act of charity for an elderly relative or neighbor. On Mother’s Day, find a new way you would like to honor your Heavenly Mother.
