MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS FOR ST. ELIZABETH SHRINE:

November 8 Sunday 9:00 AM Wilhelm Schrank (health, conversion)

FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) As we celebrate today the beautiful solemnity of All Saints, a question could be raised: will everyone be equal in heaven? The answer is, no. Catholic teaching holds that everyone will not be equal in heaven regarding their degree of glory and beatitude. While all the blessed are equally saved and fully happy, their capacity to receive and enjoy God varies according to the diversity of merits accumulated through their faith and good works on earth. The Council of Florence (1439) dogmatically defined that the souls in heaven “see clearly the one and triune God Himself…  yet according to the diversity of merits, one more perfectly than another.” This means that while every saint experiences the fullness of God’s presence and is free from suffering, some will have a greater capacity for joy and union with God due to higher sanctity. This hierarchy does not cause jealousy, as every soul is perfectly fulfilled and satisfied according to their individual capacity.

(2) Tomorrow, on November 2 (All Souls), we focus on the Church Suffering (Ecclesia patiens), that is on the souls in Purgatory. It has become a tradition then to remember the faithful departed throughout the month of November. Let us help them through our prayers, Masses, and acts of self-denial that we offer for them.

(3) Just a reminder for our patronal feast-days: Next Sunday on November 8, we will celebrate St. Emeric and on November 22, we will honor St. Elizabeth of Hungary (details below). Also, on November 22 our 11AM Mass will be transferred to the Shrine of St. Elizabeth.

NOVEMBER PLENARY INDULGENCES FOR THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED: There are two indulgences: (1) From November 1 to 8, Catholics may gain a plenary indulgence applicable only to the souls in purgatory each day by devoutly visiting a cemetery and praying for the dead, even if only mentally. (2) On November 2 (All Souls’ Day) or the Sunday preceding or following it, a plenary indulgence is granted to those who visit a church or oratory and recite the Our Father and the Creed. To obtain these indulgences, the faithful must meet the usual conditions: (a) Be detached from all sin, even venial sin. (b) Receive Sacramental Confession within approximately 20 days before or after the act. (c) Receive Holy Communion, preferably on the day the act is performed. (d) Pray for the intentions of the Pope (e.g., one Our Father and one Hail Mary).

FEAST OF ST. EMERIC will be celebrated on November 8. We will begin with a Eucharistic Adoration at 8:30AM. At 10:30AM we will have the Benediction, followed by the Solemn Mass at 11AM at which Fr. ELIZABETH FEAST DAY will be celebrated on November 22. Solemn Bilingual Mass at 11:00 AM followed by dinner.
