FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: In this newly created and regular column, I plan to address various topics of interest. Today it will be a canonical query. Several people asked me about difference between a pastor and administrator when a priest is named to a parish. The truth be told, the dissimilarity is minimal. The administrator has all the rights and duties of pastor and so his work is essentially the same as that of a pastor. The difference is that when an administrator is named where there already is a pastor (who maybe on a sick leave, for example), he would have to respect the direction of the pastor. The second difference is that pastors have certain extra rights when they are transferred or removed. Interestingly, when there is a vacant see, the diocesan administrator cannot name pastors the first year of his governance. Fr. Bona
