MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS FOR ST. ELIZABETH SHRINE:

October 25 Sunday 9:00 AM Victims of 1956 Revolution

FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) The phrase, “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God” is quite well known. With this response, Jesus eluded the trap that the Pharisees and Herodians (mutual enemies who joined forces against Jesus) had set up (“Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?”). Several lessons can be drawn from this event, but here I would like to highlight the first word: repay or render (in Greek apodote). The underlying meaning of this word is to give back to someone what we owe. With His answer, Jesus legitimized the existence of human authority and highlighted our need to respect it (but He did not approve of everything the people in power do). He also pointed out that we need to give back to God what is His. God gave us life and all that we are and so we need to return our lives to Him by living for Him. In the distraction and the chaos of politics, let us not forget this truth. The ultimate goal is not some type of earthly utopia, but the ever-deepening union with God.

(2) Just a reminder for our patronal feastdays: On November 8, we will celebrate St. Emeric and on November 22, we will honor St. Elizabeth of Hungary. Details below.

(3) The music for next Sunday’s Mass 11AM is provided by our Youth choir.

TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY! We will have a second collection for the missions next Sunday, October 25. Your generosity supports the Pope’s missions in more than 1,124 territories where the Church is young or struggling. Thank you for your generosity.

ALL SAINTS (November 1): This year the feast of the All Saints will fall on a Sunday. I would like to invite children to dress as some saint and be part of the procession at the Mass. After the Mass, we will gather downstairs for some refreshments and we will have a chance to guess which saints the children were portraying.

ROSARY: In the month of October, which is dedicated to the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I would like us to pray communally the Rosary before the 11AM Mass on the Sundays of October. We would start at 10:25am and finish in roughly 25 minutes, which would still give some 10 minutes of silence before the Mass. If you come after 10:25, please feel free to join us in this prayer. Even the few decades of the rosary are worth praying.

FEAST OF ST. EMERIC will be celebrated on November 8. We will begin with a Eucharistic Adoration at 8:30AM. At 10:30AM we will have the Benediction, followed by the Solemn Mass at 11AM. After the Mass, we will have a sit down meal. The menu will be: traditional Hungarian –style chicken soup, roast pork with mushroom sauce, rice pilaf, dill pickle, homemade pastry, coffee. The cost of the meal will be $30 and $15 for students (free for children of six years of age or under). Pre-ordered take-out also available: complete dinner ($30) or just soup ($12). Please register for in-house dinner or for take-out by November 4 with Maria Zsula (216-676-5863) or Maria Meszaros (440-666-6290).

LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $1,337; Maintenance: $50; Boiler repair: $30; Organ repair: $250. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.
