FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Please, see the schedule for New Year Masses below. January 1st is a Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. It is also a holy day of obligation. At the conclusion of the 5PM Mass on New Year’s Eve we will have a short Benediction service (thanksgiving for the past year) and at the conclusion of the 11AM Mass on New Year’s Day we will have as well a Benediction with intention of asking for grace and help for the new year.

(2) Thank you to all of you who have helped in some way with the preparations, decorations, singing, serving at the celebrations of Christmas. Knowing how busy a life can get, I appreciate it very much when you make time for the church. It is one way to express our gratitude to Jesus Christ.

LOOKING BACK 2024: At the end of the year, it is customary to review the past year and to see where we might be heading. First of all, it applies in spiritual life. Periodic pausing and revisiting the past year (month, week or day) is a healthy way of gaining knowledge of ourselves. Not only we recall sins by which we have insulted our Good Lord, but also we can discover our tendencies (good or bad), our weaknesses and strengths. It can help us to refocus our spiritual energies and zero in on the practice of the virtues we need the most.

Secondly, the end of the year is an occasion also to look at the numbers. In the past year, we had 7 Baptisms, 1 Reception into the Full Communion, 3 First Communions, 1 Confirmation, and 17 funerals. The numbers for baptisms and funerals were higher this year. Prior to this, in the years 2020-2023 we have averaged around 3 baptism and 10 funerals per year. Financial statement for the Fiscal Year 2024 is posted on the bulletin board. Thanks to your generosity and for watching our spending, we were able to save some money again. The saved financial resources will come handy this new year as we are planning to finish some maintenance projects such as waterproofing areas of the walls that are letting water come through, installing a new gate in the parking lot (in place of the damaged one), and possibly fixing some sidewalk (concrete issues). On our long-term plan, we have the painting of the church (which will be a multiyear project) and improving handicap access to our church. Some other minor projects are always there (we still have some issues with our boiler). Thank you again for your help in these matters.

Finally, just some updates. In the near future, the completion of the construction right across our church and the new farmer’s market building will also change the surrounding area of our church. The apartment building is slated to be finished sometime in May and the Ohio City Farm building in March.

PLEASE, PICK UP YOUR 2025 YEAR DONATION ENVELOPES IN THE ST. STEPHEN ROOM. Thank you for your generosity in supporting the parish throughout the year. If there are any address changes, please notify us.

LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $2,750; Christmas Flowers: $160. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.
