FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) I had to make a change to the time of confessions during the Holy Week: it will be on Wednesday, April 16, from 6-7PM.
(2) Thank you very much to all of you who helped this past week with welcoming guests to our parish with chicken paprika luncheon and thus helping to raise funds for our church.
HOLY NIGHT HIKE: On Holy Thursday (April 17, 2025) the Diocese has asked many churches throughout the Diocese to remain open after the Evening Mass until 11 PM for people to come and worship the Eucharist at their altar of reposition. In Ohio City and Tremont, seven (7) of these churches are within walking distance of each other (we are one of them) and they are encouraging young adults (or anyone) to walk together and visit these seven churches on Holy Thursday evening. You can start the pilgrimage walk at any of these churches: (1) St. John Cantius, 906 College Ave., Cleveland, OH 44113-4494; (2) St. Augustine, 2486 West 14th St., Cleveland, OH 44113-4449; (3) St. Andrew Kim, 2310 West 14th St., Cleveland, OH 44113-3613; (4) St. Wendelin, 2281 Columbus Rd., Cleveland, OH 44113-4230; (5) St. Emeric, 1860 West 22nd St., Cleveland, OH 44113-3185; (6) St. Malachi. 2459 Washington Ave., Cleveland, OH 44113-2380; (7) St. Patrick on Bridge Ave, 3602 Bridge Ave., Cleveland, OH 44113-3314.
PALM BRANCHES FROM LAST YEAR: The palms received on Palm Sunday are blessed. If we no longer wish them to have displayed or kept in our homes, they should be either burned or buried in the ground. If you would like to dispose of the old palm branches, please bring them to the church by April 16.
FRIENDS AND ALUMNI DINNER on April 27th at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. That day we will not have 11AM Mass at St. Emeric, but, we will transfer it to St. Elizabeth with a 11:30 start time. Following the Mass, dinner will be served. Menu: Pork Loin with Mushroom Sauce or Lecso, Rizi-bizi, Mixed Garden Salad with Balaton’s Dressing and Strudel (apple, cherry, cheese). Adults: $25; children (12-5): $15; children under 5: free. RSVP by April 23rd: please, call Virginia at 216-246-2370 or Susan (in Hungarian) at 216-581-4333.
NEXT WEEK’S GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION is taken up for the Christians in the Holy Land. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
GOOD FRIDAY FASTING (for 18-59 years old) and ABSTINENCE (for 14 years and up): Good Friday is a day of abstinence from meat and also a day of fast, that is, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. The laws on abstinence and fast bind under the pain of mortal sin.
HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS, who at this Lent/Easter time would like to receive the sacrament of confession and Eucharist, or possibly also anointing of the sick, please call the rectory at 216-965-0061 to schedule a mutually agreeable time. Thank you.
