FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) As you already know, Pope Francis died on Easter Monday and was buried on Easter Saturday, with his final resting place at the Basilica of Sancta Maria Maggiore. Let us offer our prayers for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. It is customary to pray for a deceased pontiff for nine days (called novemdiales). The novemdiales Masses in Rome are not necessarily celebrated on nine consecutive days. We will offer a Mass for Pope Francis on Tuesday.

(2) This Sunday, for our Hungarian Mass we are gathering at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth (Mass at 11:30AM). It is good to be here, at the mother-church of the Hungarian Catholics in US. Welcome to all of you and especially our honored guests and alumni of St. Elizabeth School.

(3) Today is the Divine Mercy Sunday when we recall the motivation of God for the great work of redemption – his Infinite Mercy. In the context of our fallen world we may say that everything that God does for us is an expression of His mercy, but it is especially profound in the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. Below is the prayer through which we can express our gratitude to God and entrust ourselves to the Divine Mercy. God bless you all!

THE CHAPLET OF THE DIVINE MERCY (using the rosary):

INTRODUCTION: The Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary and The Apostles’ Creed.

ON THE OUR FATHER BEADS: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

ON THE HAIL MARY BEADS: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

CONCLUSION at the end of each decade, say three times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS, who at this Easter time would like to receive the sacrament of confession and Eucharist, or possibly also anointing of the sick, please call the rectory at 216-965-0061 to schedule a mutually agreeable time. Thank you.

MAY 18 – BENEFIT LUNCH AT ST. EMERIC CHURCH HALL: On this day we will hold a charity benefit luncheon. The lunch begins at 12:30 p.m. Menu: Hungarian style fresh green pea soup, chicken paprikash with traditional dumplings (nokedli), Hungarian style cucumber salad, homemade pastry, coffee. Refreshing drinks are also available. If you would like to participate, please call one of the following ladies by May 14 (Take out pre-orders also accepted): Marika Zsula 216-676-5863 or Mária Mészáros 440-331-0391. For adults $25, for students $12, and children under 6 free. Additional donations for this cause are also most welcome.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: (1) God wanted His Church to be born at the foot of the Cross. Her glory is due to the shame of Christ, her light to the darkness, her strength to the wounds of Christ. She never shines more brightly than when men seek to destroy her. Pope Pius VI in 1799

(2) Let it be one of our chief concerns to keep in our hearts the joy of the Risen Christ. We can prove this by accepting with love, willingly and readily, all the tasks which the service of God and of men requires of us. Saint Teresa of Calcutta
