FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is a central belief in the Catholic Faith. It asserts that there is one God who exists as three distinct Persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. These three Persons are coeternal, coequal, and share the same divine essence, yet they are distinct in their roles and relationships.

The term “Trinity” itself is not found in the Bible, but the concept is supported by various biblical passages that refer to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as all being of divine essence and nature, and being distinct yet unified. For example, the New Testament contains references to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in ways that suggest their distinct yet unified nature: 1) Baptism of Jesus where all three Persons are present: the Father’s voice is heard, the Son is baptized, and the Holy Spirit descends like a dove; 2) Matthew 28, which mentions baptism “in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”.

In addition, while the Old Testament does not explicitly teach the Trinity, we can see some hints at this central teaching. For instance, the use of plural terms to describe God, such as “Elohim” in Genesis, has been interpreted by some as a reference to the three Persons of the Trinity.

A very common objection to the Trinity is the claim that it is a logical contradiction or that it implies the existence of three separate gods. We respond that the Trinity is not a contradiction but a mystery that transcends human understanding. In other words, it is not against the reason, just beyond the capabilities of the human mind. In fact, if we would be able to understand the divine essence and its nature, would God still be God?

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all the Fathers in our parish! At the end of the Mass a special blessing for the fathers will be given.

NEXT WEEK (JUNE 22) IS THE FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI: We will hold our traditional outdoor procession, weather permitting. I would like to thank those who had decorated the outdoor altars in the past and would like to ask them, if they can, to continue this beautiful service. If you have flower petals, please bring them for extra decoration on the ground. I also ask the children to participate by wearing their white dresses, and to scatter the flower petals in front of the Blessed Sacrament in the procession.

OUR CHURCH BUILDING will be 100 years old on September 6. We will have this as our theme for our St. Emeric Feastday in November. We will have a meeting (June 18; 6:30PM) to prepare a proper commemoration of this anniversary. If you would like to help out please come to the meeting.

HUNGARIANS IN IRISHTOWN BEND AND PARK PLANS MEETING: On Monday, June 16, 2025, at 6:00 pm at St. Emeric Church, – downstairs in the Church Hall, we will have another informational meeting about the Irishtown Bend construction happening around us and on the hillside below the Church.
