FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) I am safely back from visiting my family in the “old country.” While away, I kept you all in my prayers, especially on Sundays, when I offered my Masses for you, the parishioners of St. Emeric parish. I would like to thank the visiting priests for helping out with the coverage during the past two weekends. A big thank you also to all of you who in my absence have helped out in taking care of all the necessary matters for our parish. I could also say it in general as well to all of you who throughout the year help the parish in whatever form: I appreciate your spirit of generosity.
(2) We are returning to the regular schedule of weekday Masses at 9AM here at St. Emeric.
(3) Please note that with this Sunday, we are beginning to have 9AM Sunday Mass at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth (see below for more).
MASS SCHEDULE CHANGE: Changes at our Shrine of St. Elizabeth of Hungary necessitate a Mass schedule adjustment for us. After consultation and considering several alternatives, I have decided to move the 9AM Sunday Mass from St. Emeric to St. Elizabeth beginning June 28. This 9AM Mass at the shrine will be in English.
PRAYER TO KING ST. LADISLAUS (feastday: June 27): Hail, good King, all praiseworthy St. Ladislaus! Glory be to you, our gracious and mighty patron, our kind protector! O Ladislaus, confessor of the Lord, strengthen thy people by thy intercession, that the grace of thy blessedness may soften us who are weighed down by the weight of sins, that we may obtain, under thy guidance, eternal reward. St. Ladislaus, King, the steady hope of thy people, look to the piety of the nation that seeks thee, and intercede for us, for the salvation of us all. Amen
SAINTS PETER AND PAUL, APOSTLES: We celebrate the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, the Apostles, on June 29. According to tradition, both were executed on this day in the year 67 A.D. in Rome. Peter was crucified—at his own request, upside down, because he did not consider himself worthy to die in the same manner as Jesus Christ—while Paul was beheaded, as this honorable form of death was befitting a Roman citizen. On their feast day, however, we celebrate not their deaths, but rather their lives. We celebrate the exemplary lives they led in proclaiming the Gospel, which contributed greatly to the formation of the Church. They proclaimed Christ not only with words but also by shedding their blood, thereby proving that “unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit” (John 12:24).
MAINTENANCE REPORT: Back on August 7, 2022, I informed you of the grant ($11,808.70) that we received from Bethlen Gábor Foundation in Hungary (BGA) for roof repairs (by the stained glass windows, the drainage pipes, and vents) and for repairing the steps in the church inside stairwells. As I was revisiting this matter, I realized that I have never followed up on this news. The project was successfully completed in the fall of 2022 (stairs) and summer of 2023 (roof issues). We had difficulties getting a roofer and therefore a portion of the projects stretched all the way to the summer of 2023. These repairs helped us to make our stairs safer and continue to work toward the goal of eliminating all water leaks. I am grateful for the foundation’s help and support.
LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $1,131; Maintenance: $210; Organ repair: $20. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK, especially for Bev Kimar, Teréz Kalász, Lajos Boday, Márta Takács, Kathy Szabó, Alex Szaday, Virginia Kachmar, Margaret Falk, Mária Hokky, and Balázs Bedy.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE DECEASED: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen
THIS SUNDAY the 11:00 AM Mass from St. Emeric church will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/saintemeric/
LET US PRAY THREE HAIL MARYS FOR OUR PARISH EVERY DAY!
