FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Each year, in leading up to the feast of St. Valentine, we remember the vocation of marriage: its origin with God; its foundational role for society; and its indissolubility. Therefore, the observances of National Marriage Week (February 7-14) and World Marriage Day (Sunday, February 9) are an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family. The theme for 2025 is “Marriage: Source of Hope, Spring of Renewal. Pursue a Lasting Love!” If you are looking for more resources to strengthen your marriage or advice for dating and engaged couples, visit the For Your Marriage website (www.foryourmarriage.org). So let us defend marriage as it was created by God (union of a man and woman, open to life, and in accordance with God’s laws as handed down to us through His Church) and let us pray for those who might be struggling in their marriage.
O God, who in creating the human race willed that man and wife should be one, keep, we pray, in a bond of inseparable love those who are united in the covenant of Marriage, so that, as you make their love fruitful, they may become, by your grace, witnesses to charity itself. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
(2) Our church building will be 100 years old on September 6. We will have this as our theme for our St. Emeric Feastday in November. However, I would like to commemorate properly this anniversary by issuing a booklet and possibly planning some extra events. I am in the process of forming a committee for this purpose. If you would like to be part of it, please let me know.
HUNGARIANS IN IRISHTOWN BEND AND PARK PLANS MEETING: On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 6:00 pm at St. Emeric Church, – downstairs in the Church Hall, we will have another informational meeting about the Irishtown Bend construction happening around us and on the hillside below the Church. The main aim of this group is to discuss and help plan the future Hungarian cultural memorial for the park. Please stop by for this meeting if you are interested in this project, it is open to our parishioners.
THE 2025 CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL will take place next weekend (February 15-16) in our parish. The diocese is asking that we have an in-pew commitment process that weekend. This year’s appeal theme is “Make me a channel of your peace.” Your generous support will transform the lives of the nearly 400,000 people who are served each year in Northeast Ohio. Please pray for the success of the Appeal, which provides for essential programs and services in need throughout all eight counties of the Diocese of Cleveland.
HELP WANTED: Please, let me know, if you can help. (1) A person is needed who is an agent or is familiar with the field of health insurance and speaks the Hungarian language. An elderly person who speaks mostly Hungarian needs to understand her choices in her situation. (2) A Hungarian speaking caregiver is sought for a 91 year old Hungarian immigrant. She’s ambulatory and can feed herself, but as her health declines, she’ll need more and more assistance. Over the last few months, she has been preferring to speak in Hungarian, but can still revert to English. The family is looking for Hungarian speaking caregivers who can stay with her from Monday through Friday. Room and board are included with additional salary.
