FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: There are times when it is hard to find a topic for this column. Today, on the Good Shepherd Sunday, it is the opposite problem: there are too many things to share and talk about.

(1) Habemus Papam (We have a Pope): US born Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost was elected in a conclave of 133 cardinal electors on the fourth ballot and is now known as Leo XIV. He said that he chose his name in homage to Pope Leo XIII, recognizing the need to renew Catholic social teaching to face today’s new industrial revolution and the developments of artificial intelligence “that pose new challenges for the defense of human dignity, justice and labor.” Let us keep our new shepherd in our prayers.

(2) On this Sunday, at the 11AM Mass, Cecilia Bilek and Seraphina Nagy will receive First Communion, and Nora Baráth, Gabriella Nagy and Julianna Pasal will receive their second Holy Communion. We are happy for them and we congratulate them! Also, we pray for them and all First Communicants that they would faithfully follow and remain connected to our Lord Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, throughout their lives.

(3) Blessed Mother’s Day to all mothers! On this day, we honor their unconditional and sacrificial love. The vocation of motherhood is not always honored by the modern world, yet it has tremendous impact on the world. As we pray in thanksgiving for the gift of mothers, we remember mothers experiencing difficult pregnancies and pray they may find support and encouragement in choosing life for their children. Also, it is also important to remember that Mother’s Day can be a difficult holiday for many people: married couples struggling with infertility; parents who have lost a child; those who have lost their own mothers; couples longing to welcome a child through adoption; and women and men who are suffering because of their participation in abortion. Let us entrust them to our heavenly Mother, Blessed Virgin Mary. The Catholic Church proclaims the great nobility of the mother of Jesus, Mary most holy, and presents her as the supreme model for all mothers and pray for her intercession and motherly care for all of us.

TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES ON MAY 17-18: While our church is not on the route of the Cleveland Marathon, several important access roads will be closed on those days (in the mornings). This may affect more those who come to the 9AM Mass on Sunday. Please, go to www.clevelandmarathon.com to see the course maps and plan accordingly. We do have some Passes to give out that may help you to cross the race course if the need be.

PRAY FOR VOCATIONS: Good Shepherd Sunday reminds us not to forget to pray for vocations to priesthood. May they be many good and holy priests!

ROSARY: In the month of May, which is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, I would like us to pray communally the Rosary on the Sundays of the month before the Mass. We would start at 10:25AM and finish in roughly 25 minutes.

MAY 18 – BENEFIT LUNCH AT ST. EMERIC CHURCH HALL: On this day we will hold a charity benefit luncheon. The lunch begins at 12:30 p.m. Menu: Hungarian style fresh green pea soup, chicken paprikash with traditional dumplings (nokedli), Hungarian style cucumber salad, homemade pastry, coffee. Refreshing drinks are also available. If you would like to participate, please call one of the following ladies by May 14 (Take out pre-orders also accepted): Marika Zsula 216-676-5863 or Mária Mészáros 440-331-0391. For adults $25, for students $12, and children under 6 free. Additional donations for this cause are also most welcome.

EMERIC MAGNETS: Beautiful magnets with the pictures of our church are available for sale in our gift shop. The proceeds will help the maintenance and beautification of our church.

LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $1,761; Easter: $125; Maintenance: $210; Renovation: $90; Candles: $312.76. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK, especially for Bev Kimar, Teréz Kalász, Lajos Boday, Márta Takács, Kathy Szabó, Alex Szaday, Virginia Kachmar, Margaret Falk, Mária Hokky, Balázs Bedy and Éva Fricke.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE DECEASED, especially for Randy Gorcz, whose funeral will be here at St. Emeric on Saturday, May 17 at 10AM.

THIS SUNDAY the 11:00 AM Mass from St. Emeric church will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/saintemeric/ and https://stemeric.com/

LET US PRAY THREE HAIL MARYS FOR OUR PARISH EVERY DAY!
