FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: In today’s gospel we heard of Jesus’ first public miracle: changing water into wine. For some people this might seem like an example of God’s wasted power. They would ask, what was the point? There are many reasons one can discern in this miracle; here I would like to mention only one. By this miracle, Jesus wanted to tell us that the happiest possible human life is found only with Him. Many people seek fun, joy and fulfillment outside of God. They may claim they found it, but they are only temporarily distracted by business of life or some entertainment. This supposed joy is ephemeral and it evaporates very quickly without giving the man the true strength and contentment in life. Whether we see it or not, without Jesus Christ, our life is empty and sad. Thus, this miracle reminds us that God does not want to preclude us from enjoying the gifts of His creation; He only wants us not to forget to include Him in our daily life. What He gives, that joy and happiness, is truly amazing, the best.
THIS SUNDAY after 11AM Mass, we will serve doughnut breakfast (2 doughnuts and coffee) for $5. Please come and join us for this social.
MARGARET OF HUNGARY PRAYER GROUP: In November of last year, I mentioned my intention to establish a prayer group here at our parish because as Jesus teaches us, apart from God, we can do nothing (cf. Jn 15:5). Therefore, I would like to have a spiritual backing to all our endeavors, be it an effort to evangelize or cook a meal for one of our events. With this prayer group, I would like to also join even more our homebound parishioners to our community (and even those who might follow us on the Internet from far away). For the members of this group, there will be a commitment to offer few prayers for their own sanctification and also for some parish related intentions (some stable and some specific for that month). It will not be a sin, if you miss the prayers. But, I hope that this group will challenge us to be persevering in prayer and develop a sacrificial heart. The requirements are: (1) prayer to the Holy Spirit (I will provide the prayer), (2) praying at least two decades of a Rosary or a Divine Mercy Chaplet, (3) reading from the Bible for 5 minutes. The intentions that these prayers/sacrifices are to be offered are: (1) for growth in holiness, (2) for the return to the Faith of the fallen away Catholics, especially those from our parish, (3) for peace in the world. Please, call the rectory or email with your name to be signed up for this group. There will be no meetings.
