FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: 1) Thank you very much to all of you who in my absence helped the visiting priests with the set up for the Masses. Also, I appreciate all of your efforts in keeping the church clean and beautiful.
2) The feeding of the 5000 with five loaves and two fish, as recorded in today’s gospel passage, was a miraculous event. Some atheists want to tell us that it was not a miracle, only that Jesus persuaded everyone to share their food with others. Then why did the crowd want to make him a king, if it were not something extraordinary, something divine.
What was the reason for this miracle? The multiplication of bread has been interpreted in various ways throughout Christian tradition. Some see it as a demonstration of Jesus’ Messianic identity, while others view it as a symbol of God’s provision and abundance. Most commentators, however, have drawn parallels between the multiplication of bread and the Eucharist, noting that both involve the transformation of ordinary bread into something extraordinary. In the Eucharist, bread and wine are consecrated and become the Body and Blood of Christ, while in the multiplication of bread, Jesus takes ordinary bread and multiplies it to feed the hungry. Therefore, in this miracle we can see the prefiguration of the Eucharist, the stupendous nourishment that God will offer to those who follow Him faithfully.

EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION: The Legion of Mary of the Diocese of Cleveland invites you to a traditional Eucharistic Procession on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11am at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Cleveland. The event begins with Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Kevin Estabrook, Legion of Mary Spiritual Director, a Eucharistic procession through the streets of downtown Cleveland which will capture the feeling of what it would have been like to follow Jesus as His disciples did during His earthly life, while singing hymns in honor of our Lord Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary, and returning to the Cathedral for the recitation of the Rosary and closing prayers. All are welcome to attend. Worship Aid is provided. Please email contact@legionofmarynorthernohio.org or https://www.facebook.com/legionofmarynorthernohio/ for more information.
