I keep you all in my prayers.

FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: As you may know, the Catholic Church follows a three-year cycle of Sunday Gospel readings, known as Years A, B, and C. This cycle is based on the three synoptic Gospels: Matthew (Year A), Mark (Year B), and Luke (Year C). Each year begins on the First Sunday of Advent and marks the transition from one lectionary cycle to the next.

What is unusual about the year B, in which we are, that in the middle of the liturgical season known as Ordinary Time, on four consecutive Sundays the gospel readings from Mark are replaced with the readings from John. More specifically, we read from the chapter 6, the multiplication of bread and Jesus’ speech about His Body, the Eucharist. This chapter from John’s gospel is very important because it clearly shows that Jesus did indeed intend to establish the Sacrament of the Eucharist not as a symbol, but as His true Body and Blood.

TEMPORARY MASS SCHEDULE CHANGES: I just wanted to let you know that on Sunday July 14 and 21 there will not be a 9AM English Mass. Likewise, on weekdays from July 10-25 we will not have a 9AM Mass.

MASS AT THE SHRINE OF ST. ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY: On August 4, we will have Mass at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. That day we will not have 11AM Mass at St. Emeric, but, we will transfer it to St. Elizabeth with a 11:30 start time. Following the Mass, refreshments will be served in the hall downstairs. All of you are invited to stay, no RSVP needed.

RETROUVAILLE: A Unique Program to Strengthen and Heal Your Marriage – Beginning September 20-22, 2024. The Retrouvaille program is designed to help married couples develop improved ways of communicating and relating to each other in order to overcome challenges which have left them feeling frustrated, hurt, distant, or even hopeless. Retrouvaille, which means rediscovery, is open to couples of all faiths and is supported by the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. This program consists of a weekend experience and six follow up sessions. For more information or to register, visit www.helpourmarriage.org or call Shelly or Rob at 216.509.0301 or 440.836.4810.

NEW PAYMENT PROCESS AT WEST SIDE MARKET: To secure free parking for our events, you must submit a form. The filled-out form (check the Opt Out option, but don’t do the log-in part), should be scanned and emailed to: tiffany@westsidemarket.org. We can help scan and email the filled out forms.

OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, OUR SAINTS: July 22 is St. Mary Magdalene’s Day. The penitent woman was present at Jesus’ death and was privileged to be one of the first to see the Risen Christ. Thus she became the messenger of the resurrection. She is the patron saint of penitents, the penitents who testify that there is no depth of sin from which sincere repentance cannot save us.

On 24 July, the Church celebrates St. Kinga from Hungary, patron saint of Poland and Lithuania. She was born in Esztergom on 5 March 1224, the first-born child of the King Béla IV of Hungary and the Byzantine princess Maria Lazkaris. She became Queen of Poland at the age of fifteen as the wife of Boleslav V. She was the sister of St. Margaret of Hungary and Blessed Jolán.

On 25 July we celebrate the feast of St. James the Apostle, son of Zebedee, brother of John the Apostle, born in Bethsaida. He was a witness to the Lord’s major miracles. He was killed by Herod around 42. He is especially venerated in Compostella, Spain, where a very prominent church has been erected in his name.
