FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Warmest welcome to everyone who is here today at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth of Hungary for the Mass and Dinner on the occasion of the St. Elizabeth School Alumni gathering. Thank you very much for your support.
(2) Update on our anniversary book: I am still working on the final article for the anniversary book. I apologize for the delay. Once, I am finished, the editorial committee will meet to make the final decisions and submit it to the printer.
(3) It has come to my attention, that a couple of parishioners received emails that impersonated me. These communications are called “phishing emails” and they target people by sending them an e-mail that appears to be from a well-known and/or trusted source. They are designed to trick recipients into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords, credit card numbers, buying gift cards (and sensing the numbers) or personal details. These attacks exploit human psychology through social engineering, often creating a sense of urgency or fear to pressure victims into clicking malicious links or downloading infected attachments that install malware. Please, if you are not sure if an email is truly from me or St. Emeric parish, do not click or respond, but simply call the official parish phone number listed on our website and on our bulletin. In fact, many of these fraudulent emails will want to dissuade you from calling the parish (that is a big red flag). It does seem that someone was doing some research and targeting us. If you are not comfortable with the new technology, please ask a family member or a friend to help you. Things to look out for:
- Suspicious sender addresses that look similar to legitimate ones but contain subtle misspellings or unusual domains. Please, be aware that even if the email address is correct, the email still could have been hacked and so the content of the email should not be automatically accepted, but needs to be inspected.
- Generic greetings and phrases and the tone of the message .
- Urgent or threatening language demanding immediate action to avoid some adverse matter.
- Requests for personal information such as login credentials or Social Security numbers, which legitimate companies never ask for via email.
- Poor grammar and spelling mistakes or awkward phrasing that suggests the message was not professionally proofread or that the author does not know the style of the communication.
AGAPE MEAL AND PARISH-WIDE MEETING NEXT SUNDAY: After the 11AM Mass on April 26, we will have an agapé meal, during which I would like to receive feedback from you on a proposed change to our Mass schedule.
MAY 3, MAY CROWNING: We will honor our Heavenly Mother on the first Sunday of the month of May. We invite the children to participate in this joyous event, if they would like, and come dressed in their Sunday best, girls preferably in white or pastel dresses. A meeting for the children to go over the details will be 15 minutes before the Mass on Sunday, May 3.
LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $994; Easter: $620; Boiler Cost offset: $120; Maintenance: $190; in loving memory of Zsuzsanna Hunyadi: $100.
