FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) From the statement of the patriarchs and Heads of the Churches in Jerusalem (October 13, 2023): Our beloved Holy Land has changed dramatically over the past week. We are witnessing a new cycle of violence with an unjustifiable attack against all civilians. Tensions continue to rise and more innocent and vulnerable people are paying the ultimate price as the dramatic level of death and destruction in Gaza clearly show. In support of all those who have suffered in this war and of the families reeling from the violence, we call the people of our congregations and all those around the world to observe a Day of Prayer and Fasting on Tuesday, October 17th. There is yet time to stop the hatred.

(2) The Altar Guild and the parish are looking for a volunteer, who would be able to help sell some of our items (e.g., bazaar items, books) online for the support of the parish.

(3) Next Sunday, before the 11AM Mass we will have a sacred (classical) concert beginning around 10:20AM.

VOTE “NO” ON NOVEMBER BALLOTT ISSUE 1: If this proposed amendment is not defeated, it would (1) Put women at risk: • Health and safety standards in Ohio could be eliminated. Doctors could no longer need to examine a woman or explain the risks of the abortion procedure ahead of time. (2) Threaten parental rights: • A fifteen-year-old could have an abortion without her parents knowing. Current Ohio law requires parental notification and consent before a child under 18 can obtain an abortion. These parental right protections could be removed as they directly conflict with the amendment which would allow all individuals, including minors, to make their own reproductive decisions. (3) Allow for abortions of fully formed babies: • Abortion would be legal through all 9 months of pregnancy. Physicians at an abortion clinic could use a woman’s age or emotional well-being as a reason to perform an abortion in the 3rd trimester.

OUR PATRONAL FEAST will be celebrated on November 5 and Fr. Barnabás G.Kiss, OFM pastor of Holy Cross Hungarian Roman Catholic Church, Detroit, MI will be our main celebrant at 11AM Mass. We will begin with a Eucharistic Adoration after 9AM Mass in English. At 10:45AM we will have the Benediction, followed by the Solemn Mass at 11AM. After the Mass, we will have a sit down meal. The menu will be: traditional chicken soup, roast pork with mushroom sauce, rice pilaf, Fresh cabbage Salad, Hungarian style Pastry, coffee. The cost of the meal will be $25 and $13 for students (free for children of six years of age or under) and you can register by October 31 with Maria Zsula (216-676-5863) or Maria Meszaros (440-331-0391).
