FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Heartfelt welcome to everyone who may be visiting us today. We are glad you were able to join us for Mass and we look forward to the fellowship at the wonderful meal.

(2) The month of October, in the Church’s life, is dedicated to the Rosary. In fact, on October 7 we will celebrate the feast of the Our Lady of Rosary. Pope Pius V established this feast in 1571 to commemorate the victory over the Turks at Lepanto. Rosary is a powerful prayer, not because of some magical words, but because we are imploring our Heavenly Mother’s intercession. Sometimes, people ask why do we need Mary’s help, when I can go directly to Jesus? A very important theological principal is that when it comes to God, we do not act as we want to, but as God would like us to. Therefore, we desire to know what God wants. We seek the answers to: How does God want me to follow Him? What is pleasing to Him? Thus, when we look at His actions and words, we see Jesus Christ from the Cross giving us His Mother to be our Mother as well, clearly indicating that He wants her to exercise that role now with all the disciples of all time. He wants us to know that we can turn to her. Who are we to ignore this and tell God that he deal with me directly, if He chooses to provide graces to the Church through the Blessed Virgin Mary? A very short explanation with further arguments can also be read at: https://www.catholic.com/qa/why-pray-to-mary

(3) This week the diocese is organizing its biannual priestly meeting. All the priests of the diocese are strongly encouraged to participate in this four-day event. It is a chance to meet with our bishop and with other priests. I will be partaking in this event and thus we will not have morning Masses on Wednesday through Friday.

(4) October 6 is Respect Life Sunday: The Catholic Church in the United States designates the first Sunday of October as Respect Life Sunday, and this year it falls on October 6. This special day is part of Respect Life Month, a time to refocus on defending and promoting the dignity of all human life from conception to natural death. As Catholics, we are called to cherish, defend, and protect those who are most vulnerable, but especially the unborn, who have no voice of their own.

ROSARY: In the month of October, which is dedicated to the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I would like us to pray communally the Rosary on the Sundays of October before the Mass. We would start at 10:25am and finish in roughly 25 minutes, which would still give some 10 minutes of silence before the Mass. If you come after 10:25, please feel free to join us in this prayer. Even the few decades of the rosary are worth praying. Also, if someone would like to volunteer to lead the rosary or some of its parts, please let me know.

CHANGES IN THE RESPONSES DURING THE HUNGARIAN MASS: We have begun using the updated text of the Roman Missal in the Hungarian language. Please see the Hungarian section of this bulletin for the details.
