FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Now that I am back, we are returning to our usual schedule. Thank you very much to all of you who in my absence have helped out in taking care of all the necessary matters so that we could have weekend Masses, have some repairs done, and that life at St. Emeric would continue unabated. I could also say it in general to all of you who throughout the year help the parish in whatever form:  I appreciate your spirit of generosity.

(2) I have just returned from a conference organized by the Hungarian Bishops’ Conference for the Hungarian Catholic Communities abroad (the Diaspora). There were representatives from Argentina. England, Holland, France, Portugal, Luxemburg, Austria, Germany, Italy, USA, Finland, Sweden, Serbia, and Romania. Germany and US had several communities represented.  It was very interesting to meet all these representatives. Equally enlightening was not only to hear about the Hungarian communities in the other regions of the world, but also to learn of the ecclesial life in these countries, which may not always be the best (to say it mildly). The conference was presided over by Bishop Gábor Mohos, the auxiliary bishop of the Esztergom-Budapest archdiocese, charged with the responsibility for the diaspora communities and run by the office of Pastoral Ministry for those in Diaspora. I would like to express my gratitude for their efforts in keeping in touch with us, not forgetting us, enabling networking and providing support. Bishop Kornél Fábry, who will visit us in November, helps Bp. Mohos in his task of caring for the Diaspora.

(3) The catechetical instruction for the children will be today, Sunday, September 29, after the 11AM Mass. All children are welcome. It will last about 15 minutes.

CHANGES IN THE RESPONSES DURING THE MASS: Today we begin using the updated text of the Roman Missal in the Hungarian language. There are several changes, but the two main ones are in the Confiteor where we will skip the word Immaculate (as it is not in the original Latin version) and after the prayer following Our Father the response is slightly modified. The priest parts have changed as well (and I have already started to incorporate them). I know that we have been used to the old responses and it will take some time, but please, make it a conscious effort to make these new responses yours. It will be much swifter. We have books available in the pews with the corrected text to help you. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

EMERIC PARISH TRADITIONAL HARVEST FESTIVAL DINNER: OCTOBER 6 at 12:30 pm. Hungarian Scout Folk Ensemble dancers will perform. Menu: Liptauer cheese spread/bread, authentic goulash soup, Noodles with cheese and pork cracklings, followed by special Hungarian apple/cherry strudel, coffee. Cost for adults $20, students $14, and children under 7 free. Please make your reservations by October 2 by calling Marika Zsula, 216-676-5863 or Mária Mészáros 440-331-0391.

ROSARY: In the month of October, which is dedicated to the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I would like us to pray communally the Rosary on the Sundays of October before the Mass. We would start at 10:25am and finish in roughly 25 minutes, which would still give some 10 minutes of silence before the Mass. If you come after 10:25, please feel free to join us in this prayer. Even the few decades of the rosary are worth praying. Also, if someone would like to volunteer to lead the rosary or some of its parts, please let me know.

LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $1,045; In loving memory of Aladár Fricke: $416. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.
