FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. This feast was established in 1925 to combat the growing secularization of the society. Unfortunately, the message of this feast is even more urgent in our times. Pope Pius XI also ordered that the dedication of mankind to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, be made annually on this day. The Church also attached plenary indulgence for those who publicly recite the prayer Iesu dulcissime, redemptor (Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer) on the Feast of Christ the King (partial indulgence is granted for its use in other circumstances). Below is the prayer we will recite at the end of the Mass.
Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before you. We are yours, and yours we wish to be; but to be more surely united with you, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known you; many, too, despising your precepts, have rejected you. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to your Sacred Heart. Be King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken you, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned you; grant that they may quickly return to their Father’s house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger. Be King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and the unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd. Grant, O Lord, to your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give tranquility of order to all nations; make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor for ever. Amen.
A BLESSED THANKSGIVING to all of you! Our Thanksgiving Mass will be our regular Mass at 9AM on Thursday. Our first thank you should always go to God. He is the author of everything good in our lives. There is no better way to thank Him, than to participate in the Eucharist. I would like to also let you know that I am very grateful for all your help around the St. Emeric and St. Elizabeth Shrine.
CHILDREN’S CATECHETICAL PROGRAM: the next session will be on Sunday, December 1, after the 11AM Mass. All children are welcome. It will last about 15 minutes.
MARGARET OF HUNGARY PRAYER GROUP: As I indicated in the last issue of the bulletin, I would like to establish a prayer group here at the parish. As I explained, everything depends on God. Therefore, I would like to have a spiritual backing to all our endeavors, be it an effort to evangelize or cook a lunch for guest. With this prayer group, I would like to also join to our community our homebound parishioners or those who may live farther away. The more people pray, the more powerful the outpouring of the grace. For the members of this group, there will be a commitment to offer few prayers for our own sanctification and also for some parish related intentions (some stable and some specific for that month). It will not be a sin, if you miss the prayers. But, I hope that this group will challenge us to be persevering in prayer.
