FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: The temperatures are beginning to feel like autumn, so I decided to offer you today a fall cornucopia of announcements: (1) Next week, on SEPTEMBER 15, we will have Mass at the Shrine of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. That day we will NOT have 11AM Mass at St. Emeric, but, we will transfer it to St. Elizabeth with a 11:30 start time. Following the Mass, there will be a FALL FESTIVAL AND INTERNATIONAL DANCE RECITAL (see below).

(2) As I have announced some time ago, a new translation of the Roman Missal was approved in Hungary and its use is now mandatory. Several texts have changed for both the presiding priest and the people. In the very near future, we will also begin to use the updated texts of the Hungarian Roman Missal. I am grateful to the volunteers from our parish who have been diligently updating the black pew books (some editions are in white color) so that we can have a text in front of us. They are almost ready. I know that change can be difficult, or at least bothersome, but I ask for your understanding and patience as we all learn the new wording and phrases (thankfully, they are not that many). The reason we cannot stay with the old translations is that we have a lot of visitors from Hungary, other Hungarian parishes in US and Canada have also begun to use the new translation, and we are broadcasting on the internet every Sunday and thus cannot confuse others.

(3) This past week on Friday, September 6, we celebrated the 99th anniversary of the dedication of our current church building. The picture from that day is displayed in the Böhm Memorial room. If you have not seen it, check it out. Speaking of anniversaries, in November, on our patronal feast day, we will be celebrating the 120th anniversary of the foundation of our parish. The auxiliary bishop of Esztergom-Budapest, Kornél Fábry, a delegate of the Hungarian Bishops’ Conference for Hungarians in Diaspora will be the principal celebrant that day.

(4) I know that last week we had a divided community. Many of us were at the Hungarian Mass at the Hungarian Festival in German Central Park and some of us were here in the church for a Mass with a visiting priest. Due to the very low number of parishioners present in the church, I am thinking of possibly cancelling the 11AM Mass in the future on that day. However, I still want to think about it and I would like to hear your opinion. Please let me know.

(5) Finally, I would like to thank all of you who have been donating to or patronizing our bazaar. The Altar Guild members have been running the gift shop for a little over two years and in that time it became popular not only with us, but with the visitors as well. With your help, the bazaar became a great source of support for our church.

ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY SHRINE cordially invites you to a FALL FESTIVAL AND INTERNATIONAL DANCE RECITAL following the bilingual Holy Mass at 11:30 AM on Sunday, September 15. The fall festival will be held in Saint Elizabeth Hall and courtyard of the church. Four dance troops will perform: Leneghan Irish Dance Group, Cleveland Jr. Tamburitzans, Donnaschwaben Kultergroup, and St. Elizabeth Dancers. Music will be provided by Polka Hall of Famer Al Battistelli with the Anthony Culkar Orchestra. Festival food will be catered by Balaton Restaurant. No reservation necessary. Admission: $2 (children under 15 enter for free). Purchase of food tickets at the event.

SAVE THE DATE: St. Emeric’s Fall Festival Dinner on October 6. Details next week.

LAST WEEKEND’S COLLECTION: Sunday Collection: $640; Candles: $394; Maintenance: $250; Renovation Fund: $655. May God reward your generosity in supporting the church. Thank you for sending in your donations by mail or using our website https://stemeric.com/donations/.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE DECEASED. Funeral Mass for Frank Dobos will be on Saturday, September 14 at 10:30am here at St. Emeric. Funeral Mass for Aladár Fricke will be on Monday, September 16 at 10:30am here at St. Emeric. Eternal rest grant onto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
