FROM THE DESK OF FR. BONA: (1) Thank you to everyone who helped in any fashion with the St. Stephen Day picnic last Sunday. I am grateful to God for giving us a sunny afternoon so that we could welcome our guests outside and around the church as well. I appreciate the hard work of so many volunteers who devoted their time and skills for organizing and running this successful event. We did have some new people who came in seeing our advertisements, which was good to see. It would be too much to name individually all the people who lent their hands, but please know that all of you are appreciated. May God bless all of you – including our supporters. The profit for the church was roughly $4,700.

(2) Next Sunday, I will be saying Mass at the Scouts’ Day in German Central Park at 11AM. We will still have Mass here at St. Emeric at 11AM and a visiting priest will serve it.

(3) This week we will have the final reading from the gospel of St. John, the so-called Bread of Life discourse). Earlier I spoke of the Real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and its sacrificial nature. The third aspect is the communion, whereby Jesus gives Himself to us (if we are properly disposed). So, why does Jesus give himself to us as food and drink? He gives himself to us in the Eucharist as spiritual nourishment because he loves us. By eating the Body and drinking the Blood of Christ in the Eucharist, we become united to the person of Christ through his humanity. “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him” (Jn 6:56). In being united to the humanity of Christ, we are at the same time united to his divinity. Our mortal and corruptible natures are transformed by being joined to the source of life.

ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY SHRINE cordially invites you to a Fall Festival and International Dance Recital following the bilingual Holy Mass at 11:30 AM on Sunday, September 15. The event begins with Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Kevin Estabrook, Legion of Mary Spiritual Director, a Eucharistic procession through the streets of downtown Cleveland which will capture the feeling of what it would have been like to follow Jesus as His disciples did during His earthly life, while singing hymns in honor of our Lord Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary, and returning to the Cathedral for the recitation of the Rosary and closing prayers. All are welcome to attend. Worship Aid is provided. Please email contact@legionofmarynorthernohio.org or https://www.facebook.com/legionofmarynorthernohio/ for more information.
